  • So sorry to interrupt!

Okay...so I'm a horrible person. I have not written in this blog in 10 months! Yikes!
I did not realize it was this long. Sadly I have not been attending as many movies since Blockbuster shut down here in Canada. This year I am I going to try to see as many movies as I can. I have a bunch picked out over the next few months. We're getting to the time of year that the good stuff is coming out!
Here's a few quick ratings on what I have seen in the last while to tide you over.

    GI Joe Retalliation 3.5/5 Pickles
    Les Miserables 5/5 Pickles
    The Hunger Games 4.5/5 Pickles
Breaking Dawn Part 2 4/5 Pickles
    The Hobbit 5/5 Pickles
    Pitch Perfect 4.5/5 Pickles
    Wreck It Ralph 4.5/5 Pickles
    Silver Linings Playbook 4/5 Pickles

    Happy Movie Watching!

  • How many Stuffed Animals do you still have?

    TED

I know it's been a ridiculous amount of time. I have seen a couple of movies since last reviewing but just have not had the time to review and I also rarely turn on my computer anymore. I wish that this site had an app for my phone. It's attached to my hip pretty much and if everything was on there it would be amazing!

    However....the Review!

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie. I do not watch Family Guy and I think Seth MacFarlane is okay so really I was expecting the worst and hoping for the best. So I was pleasantly surprised when I actually like the movie. It had the perfect amount of raunchy humor, sentiment and pop culture references that I would expect it to have. Now because I don't watch Family Guy I cannot really comment on anything else Seth MacFarlane does....I've only seen him host the Roasts on Comedy Central.

Long and short of this...it's seriously a very enjoyable film. Something everyone might actually like...except if you are only into super serious and conservative films.

  • It Left Me Starving For More!

    The Hunger Games

This is the first movie I have seen that I actually read the book before I saw the movie. I do not want to become one of those people I dislike who compare the movie to the book....however, there are some parts in the book of The Hunger Games that were missed and done differently. I think they could have been done properly and the movie still would have had the same affect.

That said, this movie was FANTASTIC! I am so glad I have already read the second book so I know what comes next. The characters were amazingly done! Woody Harrelson was AMAZING as Haymitch...I don't think that anyone else could have done it better. I highly reccommend that everyone read the book though to get a little more backstory and insight that wasn't necessarily portrayed in the movie. It may answer some unasnwered questions for some people.

Seriously, go see this movie people. I saw it twice on the Saturday of opening weekend, cause it was THAT GOOD.

  • The beginning of the End

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One

I am conflicted. I really liked the movie for the most part but there was one part of the movie that completely made me upset with it. *possible spoiler alert* There is a part abnout half way thru the movie where the wolves talk to each other....NOT THE WAY THEY NORMALLY DO! It really bothered me. It was hoakey and totally broke from the rest of the story and the way it is told. That said, the other parts of the movie were awesome. It ended in just the right spot (pretty much where everyone guesses it will stop). If you go to the theatre to watch it STAY AFTER THE CREDITS START! There is a seguey into the next movie after the main credits are done. But seriously if you compare this movie to the first one, so much better in so many respects and I love the first one! If you don't believe this review, then look at the numbers....they don't lie. Breaking Dawn Part One is now 5th in opening weekend box office. Rating 4/5 pickles *CHOMP crunch SNAP smack*

  • The End of an Era

As I have mentioned many times in my posts I work in a video store....correction, I work-ED in a video store. Due to a series of unfortunate events the company I work for was forced to close down. Contrary to popular belief this is not because of online downloads and streaming. That is a small reason as to why Blockbuster Canada has closed it's doors but not the main reason.

I just wanted to get a post out there and say I won't be updating this as often anymore. I know I was getting lax the last few months but now that I am not renting the movies before they come out I'll have to rely on ones I can buy or go to see in the theatre which will be less often.

I am sad to see the stores go. I really loved that job and I will miss my customers and my store dearly. Packing up was one of the toughest things.

But as many of my friends have told me recently. When a door closes another one opens. If anyone who reads this knows of any employment opportunities please share!

Thanks for reading my blog thus far. We'll see where it takes me from here.

  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Occassionally I choose to review movies currently in theatres....this is one of them. I actually saw this a few weeks ago with my parents. I knew based on the trailers that this movie would be amazing....but amazing doesn't even begin to sum it up. This movie was PHENOMINAL!!! I find movies that make me feel any type of powerful emotion such as grief, laughter (not just giggling laughter, but full blown chortling) sorrow and fear are the types of movies that are absolutely incredible. In that short list of movies are films like Paranormal Activity 1&2, Water for Elephants, Remember Me, Star Trek, Star Wars, Ever After, King Kong.....and the list goes one. Guess it's not really all that short really. I have since added this movie to that list.

For those who know, I have a very strong attachment to animals. I used to work with them for nearly 12 years and the thought of an animal being in pain causes me pain and anxiety. Even if it is merely the illusion of pain being related on a movie screen. Sadly, this does happen in this movie, but how else do you create a race of seemingly human apes that have a hatred for human-kind?

As for the movie itself....FABULOUS! I'm very sad that Andy Serkis is never going to be able to win Oscars for his portayal of computer generated characters (Gollum/Smeagol, Caesar). He puts so much life into the characters and you can see the emotions of the character emoted even through simple body movements. Seriously, they should change this rule in the Academy because he deserves it every bit as much as anyone else who acts in movies.

  • A movie from a book from one of the Bronte sisters

    Jane Eyre

The film is actually based on the novel by Charlotte Bronte. The Bronte sisters and Jane Austin were the beginnings of feminism in the writing world, in my opinion. The movie itself is a little slow in some places but I found myself drawn to the screen the entire time. The beginning is also a little confusing as well but once you get into it the movie is fabulous. Rating: 3.5/5 pickles *chomp crunch*

  • 10 movies in 10 minutes....unless you're a slow reader :)

Some oldies on here and some newbies....some short and some long....ENJOY!

    Black Swan

Natalie Portman definitely deserved the Oscar for this movie! So twisted and weird it took a while to grow on me. Be warned this is NOT for younger children to watch! Definitely an 18A film but one that is a must-see! Rating 4/5 pickles *CHOMP CRUNCH SMACK*

    Hall Pass

I didn't have high expectations for this one and it completely lived up to them! This is kind of a sit back and have background noise movie....not really something I would ever sit down and watch again. I am finding lately that a lot of comedies aren't true comedies anymore. They focus too much on 'shock value' and making movies as raunchy as possible. It didnm't help that I watched the Un-Rated version either. Rating: 2/5 pickles (and that's being generous) *snap thwap*

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 1

Terrific beginning to the ending of the series. I have not read the books so I had no idea what was supposed to happen, but I loved the movie none-the-less. I have already watched the final installment of the series and I loved it! It ended perfectly! Everyone I have spoken to about the movie that have read the books have loved the last two films. Rating: 4/5 pickles *CRUNCH SNAP*

    Insidious

I was so looking forward to this movie as it was from the creators of Saw and Paranormal Activity. For the most part the movie was fabulous. I was covering my eyes through most of it....then we got to a part where it just seemed to take an unexpected turn. The turn left me bored for the rest of the movie. However if you 'know' that the movie is going to get weird about 20 minutes from the end....you shouldn't be all that disappointed. Speaking of PA....PA3 is coming to theatres in October. Can't wait! Rating: 2.5/5 pickles *chomp crunch*

    Limitless

Didn't really know what to expect from this movie. There was a lot of hype about this film from people I knew that had seen it in the theatre but I often find that when you listen to too much hype you tend to be disappointed when it doesn't completely live up to it. Since I didn't know what to expect from this movie...it met my expectations. However, just when I was getting into the movie it ended. Rating: 3.5/5 pickles *SNAP crunch*

    Rango

Great cartoon movie, but not really suitable for younger children. I don't really consider it a kid-friendly movie when the word 'hell' is said twice in 5 minutes. However even though I fell asleep watching it the first time there are some funny parts in it. Apparently if you have seen 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' you will find it funnier as there are references in Rango to that film. Rating: 3/5 pickles *snap crunch*

    The Source Code

Excellent movie! The trailers left me thinking it was going to be another 'Inception'. It was nothing like it and I actually really enjoyed it. For those of you who can't remember which one it is....it's the one with the train. Not 'Unstoppable' with the runaway train but the one where the main character goes back on the train for 8 minutes to see why it exploded and who put the bomb on the train. Rating: 4/5 pickles *CHOMP CRUNCH SNAP*

    Rio

One of the best cartoon feature films I have seen in a while (aside from Tangled). It's not hilarious by any means....just a really touching story about wild caught animals. I shed a few tears when I first saw it in theatres. Great movie for the entire family! Rating: 4.5/5 pickles *CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH*

    Your Highness

NOT WORTH IT!!! I laughed out loud about 5 times the entire movie. The rest of it was uncalled for and way too raunchy for me. I've even had customers in my store tell me that they have not liked it at all....not worth the rent or buy. Rating: 1/5 pickles....scratch that make it a gurkin.

    Something Borrowed

FAB-U-LOUS!!! Great 'chick flick' and even guys should enjoy it. I can't wait for the next 3 installments of this book series. Kate Hudson is exactly how I pictured Darcy to be when I read this book and Ginnifer Goodwin is fabulous as Rachel. Must-see Rom-Com! Rating: 4/5 pickles *SNAP CRUNCH*

  • Season of the Beastly Witch

    Beastly

Modernized version of Beauty and the Beast...I actually really enjoyed it. I wanted to see this one in the theatres really badly but didn't get a chance to. If anyone knows me at all they know I love 'coming of age' movies. The fact that they took one of the greatest fairytales/love stories and made it relate to the modern day is great. Good for anyone who just wants to kick back, relax and let magic unfold before them. Rating 3/5 pickles *CHOMP CRUNCH*

    Season of the Witch

I didn't finish watching this one....so I'll keep everyone posted on it. However, what I did see of it really reminded me of 'Willow'...loved that movie. It had hints also of 'Red Sonja' and 'Beastmaster' in there too. Honestly just wasn't in the right mindset to watch this one at this time....I'm craving me some True Blood right now. Rating (for what I saw) 3/5 pickles *SNAP*

  • Diary of the Unknown Adjustment Bureau

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2
Cute movie, just like the first one. A little more focused on the bigger brother, Rodrick. Definite great watch for the family. Short and sweet review...rating 3/5 pickles *CHOMP*

    Unknown
Wasn't sure what to expect from this one. I had heard it was like Taken...which I have yet to see....but from watching it I thought it was more like a hybrid of The Net and The Bourne Identity. I actually really enjoyed it and it kept my mind going all the time. So many twists and turns it was like watching an episode of 24. Rating 4/5 pickles *CRUNCH SNAP*

    The Adjustment Bureau
I originally saw this in the theatre and left feeling empty and unsatisfied. The trailers lead you to believe that the film will take a certain path when it ends up going down a completely different one. I would have been happier if it went down the path I thought it was going down. All in all it was a neat idea but I could have used those 2 hrs to watch something else. Rating 2.5/5 pickles *snap*
